Patient Pre-Screening
Your MidAmerica physician has scheduled you for a Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) scan at our Palos Hills Open MRI facility.
We encourage you to read the following material as this will help explain the MRI process and answer many of your questions.
MRI images require the use of non-harmful magnetic fields. Magnetic imaging requires that certain precautions are taken to ensure patient safety. A pre-screening process is required to make certain that there are no contraindications to performing your MRI. A representative from MidAmerica will call you and take you through the pre-screening process. This requires a brief questionnaire about your health history. For example this may include questions pertaining to implantable devices such as a pacemaker, recent surgery, pregnancy, or if you are a metal worker.
Patients often ask our staff about the use of contrast material during the performance of your MRI scan. The contrast used is called gadolinium. This is an approved substance by the United States Food and Drug Administration which is utilized to highlight certain aspects of your scan to provide more information to determine the nature of your musculoskeletal condition. Depending upon your age and medical history laboratory blood testing may be required prior to your scan.
The screening process is usually done over the telephone by one of our patient representatives or in person prior to your MRI. We have also provided a link to obtain our MRI pre-screening form. This can be obtained by clicking the MRI Screening Link below. This will allow you to download our form. Completion of this form prior to your examination may help expedite your visit to our facility.
